James Richardson Obituary

James F. Richardson, age 90, a resident of Wheaton, IL and formerly of Glen Ellyn, IL, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion. He was the beloved husband of Diane Richardson, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage.

Jim was a loving father to Cynthia Brinkman-Roysdon, Joseph Richardson, and Thomas Richardson. He was a proud grandfather to Hannah (Shane) Gavin, Lindsay Brinkman, Isabella Roysdon, and Dillon Roysdon, and a cherished great-grandfather to Hailey Gavin and Georgia Gavin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ethel Richardson, his stepmother Ruth Richardson, his sister Patricia Richardson, and his sons-in-law Michael Brinkman and Calvin Roysdon.

Jim was also an uncle by choice, a nephew, godfather, cousin, and friend to many. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Jim had an interest in flying that began after his father put a stop to the idea of becoming a race car driver. He then decided to set his sights a little higher - the sky.

That decision sparked a lifelong love for aviation. He attended the University of Illinois's flight school, graduating in 1955. Afterward, he entered the United States Navy, where he not only flew but also formed many lifelong friendships. Following his military service, he began a fulfilling career with United Airlines, where he spent 34 years doing what he loved most - flying airplanes and seeing the world. He retired a respected Captain of the Boeing 747 in 1995.

Outside of work, Jim loved skiing with his wife, children, and friends making memories on the slopes together. He also loved to fish, whether saltwater or freshwater, with fly fishing as his biggest passion. You could often find him in the backyard practicing his casting skills. Over the years, he made many trips to Chilé where he put his fly fishing skills to work. He was also incredibly proud of finally catching and mounting his Canadian Muskie. Additionally, he was an avid golfer who found joy on the course as much as he did on the mountains or water.

Jim also enjoyed spending time at local taverns, where he met new people, shared stories, and watched the latest sports games. Jim was a lifelong Chicago Bears and White Sox fan. Whether he attended games in person or watched them on TV, he was happiest when it was with family and friends. The Indy 500 was another highlight he looked forward to attending every year.

Above all, Jim was a family man. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he was known for his storytelling, which will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
