James William Rogers
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather
James William Rogers, 84, of Waynesville passed away peacefully on Thursday August 21, 2025.
A native of Haywood County, he was born on March 9, 1941, to the late Farmer and Lucille Rogers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Doyle Rogers and a sister Barbara Jones.
James dedicated his life to his family, embodying the values of love, devotion and kindness. He found joy in the simple things- especially spending time with his loved ones, fishing and playing the guitar at family reunions. James was a proud member of Grandview Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 59 years, Phyllis Edwards Rogers; his two sons, Ronald J. Rogers and his wife, Liz of Switzerland and Rodney S. Rogers and his wife, Cara of Waynesville. James prided himself on being a devoted grandfather to his four grandchildren: Ruby Rogers, McGuire Rogers, McClain Rogers and Walker Rogers. He is also survived by his sisters, Judy R. Allison of Etowah and Betty Rogers of Asheville.
The family will hold a private graveside service to honor James's memory. A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 -4:00pm on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Grandview Baptist Church with Barry Willett officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grandview Baptist Church Renovation Funds in honor of James.
