James Bernard "Jim" Salter

Loris, South Carolina
Mr. James "Jim" Bernard Salter, age 81, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at his home. Born on August 10, 1942, in Flushing Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Bernard Salter and the late Virginia Jackson.
Jim was in the United States Army, where he served during Vietnam, with courage, honor, and distinction. In the Army, Jim was a pistol sharpshooter, grenade launcher, and a rifle marksman. Jim then went onto college as a first-generation student at The New York Institute of Technology, and achieved his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice. He was a proud officer with the New York Police Department for 20 years until his retirement. He enjoyed spending his time watching his favorite team, The New York Yankees, visiting with his neighbors, cutting grass, doing yard work, and tending to his flowers: geraniums, impatiens, and red and pink roses. Above all else, Jim adored his wife, Althea Cole, his children, and grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Christopher Salter, and wife, Jennifer; his daughter Kimberly Nyquist, and husband, Daniel; his former wife of 38 years, Monica Salter; his five grandchildren; and brother, Greg Salter, and wife, Judy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Salter was predeceased by his beloved wife, Althea Horne Cole.
Funeral services, with military honors, will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Hardwick Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 1:00 PM until the time of services at Hardwick Funeral Home.
