James "Jimmy" Scott of Drummonds passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at the age of 76. He was a truck driver, having owned his own trucking company for a time, and later moved on to work for a pallet company until retirement.
Mr. Jimmy, the self-proclaimed "Big Cheese," loved to spend time with his family, whether it was bailing hay and tending to his cows on "Doodle Bug Ranch" with his sons when they were younger, or having the grandkids come over to visit their "Pop," he cherished the time he spent with his loved ones. He was a tinkerer in his spare time, and an avid bargain shopper, often times making stops at Lowes and Walmart, bringing home items he "just had to have" because they were on sale. Mr. Jimmy tended a garden year after year, but his favorite thing out in the yard was "Old Brown," his beloved yard ornament of a truck that he'd had for over 30 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Tipton County, having attended since 1977, and loved his Sunday School class and church family dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Bivens Scott; his three sons, Derek (Jessica) Scott of Drummonds, Matthew (Amanda) Scott of Stem, NC, and Mark (Kristina) Scott of Nesbit, MS; two brothers, Mike Scott of Sardis, and Marty (Janice) Scott of Scotts Hill; one sister, Shirley Kelley of Decaturville; three grandchildren, Tillian Scott, Dillon Scott, and Bailey Scott, his church family, friends, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 21st at Covington Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will begin two hours prior to the service, in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Mr. Jimmy's memory to the Faith Baptist Church of Tipton County - Family Life Center Building Fund, 900 Simmons Rd, Drummonds, TN 38023.
