Mr. James B. Shorter was born January 7, 1946, in Prospect, Tennessee to the union of Herman Shorter and Katharine (Bradley) Shorter. James departed this life, July 14, 2024 at the age of 78 surrounded by loving family members while in the excellent, wonderful care of staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
James was a 1964 graduate of Edward Drummond Libbey High School. He was a standout athlete and participated in football and was an All-City Baseball player.
Known as Jim to many, he was a Vietnam veteran and worked many years in the insurance and real estate industry. Both parents precede him in death as well as a younger brother Dewayne Patterson.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory brother, Robert (Dorothy), Sister, Tanya Staples, sons Jamie Shorter, Shaun Shorter, daughters, Nima (Calvin) Houston and Dyani and a host of other many loving relatives and friends. You know who you are and we love and appreciate you!
A Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 p.m.at Monroe Street United Methodist Church, 3613 Monroe Street, Toledo, Ohio 43606 on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Jimmy and I were on the Libbey baseball team my senior year in 1963. I remember him as a really good guy who always seemed to have a smile on his face. RIP Jimmy.
