James Malcolm Simonson
January 20, 1951 – July 1, 2025
James Malcolm Simonson, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at his home in Georgetown, Texas, on July 1, 2025, at the age of 74.
Born on January 20, 1951 in Austin, Texas, James was the son of Donald and Opal Simonson. He was an only child, and was raised in Florence, Texas, for much of his youth. His grandmother, or "Mama" as he affectionately called her, helped raise him and served as his most cherished and often-quoted mentor up until her passing.
A graduate of Florence High School and Southwestern University, James led a colorful and successful life in various career fields. He served Williamson County and the City of Georgetown as EMS Director, Police (Peace) Officer, Adult Probation Officer, and ended his career teaching court-appointed classes in an effort to help others become better people. Teaching was an abiding passion of his. Admired for his integrity, compassion for others, and sense of humor, he left a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him.
James's other passions were many including baseball, reading, playing guitar, history, and traveling with his wife, Gail. He loved animals and raised many with love and care over the years. He relished family gatherings but also enjoyed peace and serenity on the back porch. In early adulthood, James was an excellent pool player, a fantastic marksman and gun enthusiast, a small-town traveling musician, a martial artist, and an avid collector of sports memorabilia – once owning and operating a ball card shop, spreading his love of sports with others.
Above all, James's greatest joy was his family. He supported and celebrated all of his children and grandchildren with unwavering pride. He prioritized time with his children and served as a coach on countless baseball teams. He was a constant source of positivity and encouragement for his kids and grandkids in all of their pursuits.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Gail Simonson; his children, Melissa (Scott) Revier, Chelsea (Dillon) Bice, Macon (Lauren) Simonson, Cory (Carlos) Simonson, Brandi (Lee) Barnwell, and Geoffrey (Hanah) Susan; and his many treasured grandchildren: Brettlyn Revier, Bryden Revier, Jordan Bice, Austin Bice, Camilla Simonson, Aila Simonson, Bonnie Simonson, Nina Simonson, and Haillaine Susan.
James will be remembered for his strength, sense of humor, kindness, patience, and the deep, unconditional love that he gave so freely. His legacy will be one of resilience, love, and devotion to his family. He will be dearly missed, forever remembered, and always cherished.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 8th, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral service on Wednesday, July 9th, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at Ramsey Funeral Home & Crematorium, 5600 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas, 78633. Following the Funeral service, James will be transported to Florence Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
Pallbearers: Macon Simonson, Cory Simonson, Geoffrey Susan, Scott Revier, Dillon Bice, and Carlos Fernandes.
