James Lyndall Smith of De Queen, beloved father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Sevier County Medical Center at the age of 86 years old. A lifelong resident of De Queen, he was the fifth of seven children born to the union of Leroy and Birdie Dale (Rowlett) Smith on January 30, 1939.
He was a 1957 graduate of De Queen High School, where he earned All-State honors in football and basketball and served as president of his senior class. He retired after a 30-year career on the De Queen and Eastern Railroad.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nora, a union that lasted 47 years; his parents Leroy and Birdie Dale Smith; siblings Leroy Smith Junior, Wayne Smith, Curtis Smith, Sue Wilson, and Terry Smith; and one grandson, John McLelland.
He leaves to cherish his memory one brother, Randy Smith and wife, Wanda, of De Queen; three sons, David Lyndall Smith of Texarkana, Texas, Michael Wayne Smith and wife Rhonda of Butler, Kentucky and Edwin Scott Smith of De Queen; Four step-children, Sherry Miller, Mike Denson, Leanne Gray and Teresa Sims and husband Kevin, all of De Queen; numerous grandchildren including Dustin Smith and wife Sue of Conway, Ark, Megan McAfee and husband Blake of Hot Springs, Ark, Tiffany Luker and husband, Kirk of Humboldt, TN, Ashley Smith of Butler, Ken., Cameron Smith of Detroit Mich., Brandon Smith of Marionville, Mo, Seth Smith of Champaign, Ill, Sarah Smith of Indianapolis, Ind, Alicia Mitchell of De Queen, Trent Barnette of Arlington, Texas, Saul Campell of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Jesse Sims of Seattle, Washington, Kaisie Cravens of De Queen and Jace Sims and wife Addie of De Queen; numerous great-grandchildren and a host of friends and acquaintances.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2026, at Redmen Cemetery in De Queen, with Bro. Tim Johnson officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral home.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2026, before the service in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen.
