Ben was born on February 26, 1944, in
Pocahontas, Arkansas. He graduated from Pocahontas High School, then went on to attend the University of Arkansas, and later graduated from Henderson State University. He began his professional career in education before transitioning into the corporate sector, starting at Dierks Forestry as a computer programmer and later moving into accounting when the company was acquired by Weyerhaeuser. In 1984, he transferred to De Queen Eastern Railroad, where he served as Director of Finance and Administration, overseeing interline dispatch and clerical operations. An avid traveler, outdoorsman, and photographer, Ben was a founding member of the Johnson Bridge Hunting Club. He had a deep appreciation for nature and loved capturing its beauty through photography. Several of his photographs were published in magazines, and he received awards in recognition of his work. Ben and his wife traveled extensively across the country in their RV, enjoying the outdoors and creating lasting memories together.
Ben especially cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking them on trips to Galveston, fishing, and throwing rocks in the creek. He found joy in watching his hummingbirds and flying squirrels, keeping up with the news, and sharing chocolate chip cookies with his great-grandchildren. He loved relaxing by the pool, hosting cookouts for friends and family, and sharing his famous ribs with those he loved most.
Ben was a member of Kern Heights Baptist Church and lived a life grounded in family, friendship, and faith. He was truly loved by all who knew him.
