James H. Smolleck

James H. Smolleck, 79, of New Derry, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital, Latrobe.
Born January 29, 1946, in Latrobe, he was the son of the late John Smolleck Sr. and Elizabeth A. (Kornides) Smolleck.
Prior to his retirement, Jim had been employed at Elliott Company, Jeannette, with 42 years of service. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served during the Vietnam War and maintained a patriotic spirit and love of his country for the rest of his life.
Jim's passions were golf and baseball. He golfed several days a week and especially enjoyed golfing with his grandson, Hayden. Throughout the years, he shared his love of baseball with both the young people and adults at Derry Little League, Derry Legion Baseball, and Latrobe-Derry Area Teener League.
Prioritizing others before himself, Jim loved to find ways to volunteer in the community, especially for events and organizations in which his family were involved. He utilized his skills as a craftsman and loved projects, whether it was a tree house for his grandchildren, parade floats, or even a locker room for his granddaughter Haley's gymnastics group.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Jr., Richard, and Eugene Smolleck.
Jim is survived by one son, Eric J. Smolleck, and his wife, Denise, of Derry; two grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Haley and Hayden; and one sister, Nancy Tomich, of Latrobe.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Select Specialty Hospital, Latrobe, for their excellent care and compassion.
