James Stacer

James RD Stacer passed away peacefully at New Hope Bay in Bay City on Tuesday morning, July 8, 2025, at the age of 77 years. He was born on October 20, 1947, in Saginaw, the son of the late RD and Anne (Purkis) Stacer. Jim graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam Era from Jan - 1970 to Dec -1971. Upon returning home Jim began a fulfilling career in Industrial Engineering at Eaton Manufacturing and eventually retired from Grede Foundry. He also enjoyed working a few years at Stacer Sales & Service, alongside his father and uncle. Jim was a loving father and adoring grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman, who especially enjoyed trout fishing and deer hunting. He was a true DIY'er and had tools to fix just about anything. Jim was a longtime member at Vassar Victory Center (Bay Valley Christian Church – Vassar Campus).
Surviving family include his wife of 50 years, Annette, whom he married on June 21, 1975; daughter, Angenette (Daniel) Spalink; son, James (Beth) Stacer; granddaughter, Francesca Spalink; siblings, Nancy (Dave) McKinnon, Janet (Mike) Graham and William (Julie) Stacer; brothers and sister-in-law, Richard (Yvonne) DesJardins, Ken (Sandy) DesJardins and Joyce (Wayne) Telfor as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, RD and Anne Stacer; father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Elizabeth DesJardins; and brother-in-law, David L. Winters.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Vassar Victory Center (Bay Valley Christian Church – Vassar Campus), 800 State Rd. in Vassar. Pastor Mark Seppo officiating, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday, July 17th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
