James Norman Steele of Golden, Colorado, passed away, on September 19, 2025, with his family by his side.

James was born in Idaho Springs, Colorado, to James Tuttle Steele and Elvera (Vera) M. Benson.

After his service in the Navy, James, known to his co-workers as "Gentleman Jim", worked as a truck driver, then started his career in security at the Urad Mine. He also served as the Fire Chief in Empire, Colorado.

Jim was a dedicated member of the Idaho Springs Elks Lodge 607; he was recognized as the longest continuous member of the lodge. He passed away at the age of 90.

Jim met the love of his life, Geraldine, while working as a truck driver delivering beer to the Original Hard Rock Café in Empire, Colorado. At the time of her death, they had been married for 62 years. One of his favorite activities was taking his family camping and exploring the great state of Colorado.

He will be remembered as the quiet and humble one in the lives of all who knew him.

James is survived by his children; Metza Templeton (Jack), Becky (Jimmie) Peyton, Darla (Brad) Weissenfels; grandchildren, James Templeton, Mary (Tony) Aragon, Donald Thomas, Anthony Thomas, Ariel (Dan) Fuqua, Romie Weissenfels; great grandchildren Roman Aragon, Theia Aragon, Blake Fuqua; brother Rick (Sharon) Steele, and a large loving extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris Hanson, and brother Robert Steele.
