James D. Stewart, 67, lovingly known as Jimbo, Jimmy, Jim, Dad, or "Papa Candy", entered into heaven on August 14th, 2025. He was born on February 12th, 1958 in Gainesville, Florida, to Wilson Monroe Stewart and Lillian Annette Stewart and was the middle child of 3 boys. He was a longtime Jacksonville resident and attended Andrew Jackson High School where he met his future wife, Sandra Rouse Stewart Sanders. During his school years, he played as a tight-end for his football team, served as a mascot, and was well known as the life of the crowd. Before high school, he was often seen with his little brother, Doug, by his side as his trusted wingman. He lived life on his own terms, nothing about him was ordinary.
Although he and Sandra later divorced, together they shared five beautiful children, whom he loved deeply and for whom he worked hard to provide. Jimbo built a long and dedicated career as a mechanic with JEA, where he proudly served for over 29 years. His lifelong passion for music brought him joy, and he could talk endlessly about his favorite artists, including Santana, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Bob Seger, and many more. A devoted Florida Gators fan, he often sported orange and blue, usually paired with a set of cowboy boots. Known for his sweet tooth, Jimbo never turned down an opportunity to grab a sweet treat. In his younger years, he was an avid cook with a love for hearty southern meals. He also treasured time at the beach, where many fond memories with family and friends were made. Whether catching waves on his surfboard or simply enjoying the shoreline, the beach is a place where many cherished memories were made. His loved ones will forever think of him whenever they are near the ocean.
A man of faith, Jimbo accepted Christ in his early teens. He attended North Jax Baptist Church with his children and later with his late father, Monroe. In recent years, he worshiped at Oceanway Assembly of God alongside his daughter Sara. He will also be remembered for his sense of humor, whether through one silly face or off-kilter phrase, he had the gift of bringing laughter to those around him.
Above all, Jimbo was known for his caring heart. He loved others well and was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back without hesitation. He leaves behind a legacy of humor, music, faith, devotion to family, and a generous spirit. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children: Courtney Lewis (Ryan), Joshua Stewart (Megan), Sara Edgy (Tony), Zachary Stewart (Samantha), and Jimmy Stewart (Myranda Ariel). He is also survived by his brothers, Ron Stewart (Carole) and Doug Stewart (Christine); and his cherished grandchildren: Taison Mullins (Shannon), Hayden Stewart, Joey Stewart, and Walker Stewart.
