James "Jim" Sutton, 71, left this world on June 23, 2022, but we know his spirit lives on. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen (Geier) Sutton; parents, Burl and Mary Lou Sutton; parents-in-law, Margit and Geza Geier, Sr.; and brother-in-law, Geza Geier, Jr., Jim is survived by and was the proud dad of daughter, Emily Sutton, and son, David Sutton, both of Barberton; cherished pawpaw to his precious granddaughter Elena; beloved brother of Richard Sutton, Cynthia Sutton, Dan (Bonnie) Sutton, Bob (Becky) Sutton, Betty (Doug Corwon) Sutton, and Becky Geier; and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Born in Clarksburg, W. Va., Jim graduated from Barberton High School and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree, and was thereafter appointed by the President, a Reserve Officer, Ensign, in the United States Navy. Jim worked for more than 40 years at the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co., where he elevated to the position of Senior Adjuster and Instructor. Jim was also a member of the Masons, Grand Lodge of Ohio.
Always striving for growth and understanding in spirit and mind, Jim was inquisitive and sought to learn. Jim was dependable and generous, had a shy, but mischievous smile, and a twinkle in his eye when engaged in debate. He loved his kids and their time together; whether it was hiking the Appalachian Trail with David or hanging out and visiting with Emily and granddaughter, Elena. Jim took great pleasure in the many summer trips he took with his kids and nieces, where he introduced the fourth generation of the family to his West Virginian "holler" campsites and love of the outdoors.
The family would like to thank the caregivers, including the Barberton Rescue Squad, who treated Jim with kindness, care, and respect as he fought courageously to give all of us more time together. We loved Jim. He touched our hearts and made a difference in our lives. We will miss him, but we know we will see him again someday; free from sickness and struggle.
The family will receive friends, FRIDAY, July 1, 2022 from 5:00-7:00pm at Cox- McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton. A Memorial Service will follow at 7:00pm at the funeral home.
A Celebration of Jim's Life will take place Saturday, July, 2, 2022, from 1:00 - 7:00 at the Barberton Hungarian Club, 451 W. Park Ave., Barberton.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeview UMC Community Outreach, 211 3rd St. NW, Barberton, OH 44203.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Jim was a co-worker of mine at Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB) for all of my 36 years at HSB, serving like Jim in the Claims Department. Not only was Jim a co-worker, we were friends. No doubt the world has lost a wonderful man. May God guide you during your healing, and that you cherish your memories.
