James Terry Teerlink, 83, of Sandy Utah passed away unexpectedly on August 9, 2024. He was born on November 21, 1940. Terry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a man of integrity, with a strong work ethic and a deep dedication to providing for his family.
Terry worked for Associated Foods for over 40 years, where he was recognized for driving over 1 million miles accident-free throughout his career. He was married to the love of his life, Ann Teerlink for 49 years. Together, they raised two children, Danny Teerlink and Shauna Carter. Terry was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He shared a special bond with his niece, Staci Vest, whom he referred to as his second daughter. He also had close relationships with his siblings' families and their children, earning the affectionate title of everyone's grandpa.
Terry spent the majority of his life in Utah, with 15 years in Southern California living with his daughter and her family. However, he longed to return to the home he made with Ann in Utah, where he spent the last few years of his life.
In his adolescence, Terry was a bit of a rebel and meticulously cared for his 1960s convertible Corvette, never allowing anyone to put their dirty shoes on the floor mats. Upon retirement, he enjoyed chauffeuring his grandchildren to and from their activities and was actively involved in all the joys of their childhoods, creating cherished memories along the way. In his later years, Terry found joy in decorating his home and yard, painting "everything," collecting model cars and motorcycles, spending time with family and driving around town in his cherished candy apple red 1979 Corvette.
Terry is survived by his daughter Shauna Carter (Brad), his son Danny Teerlink, and his grandchildren, Jake Carter, Sydney Carter, Mandy (Dustin) Knight and Danielle Teerlink. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Ann Teerlink, parents Lorna and Leo Teerlink, and his siblings Tamara Tischner, Prime Teerlink, Duane Teerlink, and Viola Overduyn. He is also survived by his sisters, Carol Liedtke and Leona Prince.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Jeannie and Jerry Kennedy who loved and checked in on Terry daily, allowing him to spend his remaining years where he felt most at home. They also wish to thank his extended family including Staci Vest, Maureen Teerlink and family, Ashley Parker and Heather Revel for the support they offered.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 10:00 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 E. 10600 S. Sandy, UT 84092
