James was born May 7, 1941 in Elizabethtown, KY. to his late parents Paul and Mildred Thomas and is preceded in death by a beloved wife Jean Thomas; a son, James 'Skinner" Thomas; loving daughters, Kathy Sue Stump, Patty Jo Browning, Jan Lyons; sisters, Betty Saltzman and Dorothy Townsend, Jan Lyons; brothers, Paul "Buck" Thomas and Mike Thomas; a grandson, Spencer Sapp.
He was committed to help his masonic family in founding River City Lodge #966 and was also a member of the Scottish Rite.
James is survived by his daughters, Angie Brown, Judy Sapp (Doug) and Mary Kay Nolan (Chris); 21 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Marcie Carrie (Charles), and Norma "Peachie" Priddy, ; 2 brothers, David "Yogi" (Gale) and Harold "Tea" (Terry); and his loving caregiver, Sharon Wilson.
Visitation will be held 12:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Hwy with services 10:00 A.M. Wednesday followed with burial in the Bethany Cemetery.
Memorial gift may be given to St Joseph Orphanage.
