James R. (Jim) Thwing
Jim Thwing of Goliad, Texas passed away on September 2, 2025 at the age of 75 after a long battle with cancer.
Jim was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on August 19, 1950 to Jimmy and Lillian Thwing. He is survived by his wife Mary Beth of 25 years; his son Bryan (Kerra) Thwing; grandchildren, Kade, Abby, Eastin and Phoenix. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Patricia (Ken) Miller; brother, Bill Thwing; niece, Kelly and great-niece, Astrid.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dale Thwing.
Jim's father sent him to work at 13 in the family business's LWR and Garrett Oil in Aransas Pass. He moved to Goliad to his grandparent's ranch permanently in 1994 and became the service manager of Von Dohlen Ford. He worked there for 23 years. He semi-retired and worked at Goliad Auto Parts part-time until he retired for good.
Jim's passions were family first, ranching and cooking. He started cooking at the Goliad Club in 2009 where Sharon Cunningham taught him about amounts and other cooking tips. Gloria, Mariana and Rosa all worked with him to serve delicious meals. He introduced his love of cooking to his grandkids, Kade, Abby and Eastin. His youngest grandchild, Phoenix was next in line to share his love of cooking. Unfortunately, he had to retire in October 2024 due to his declining health.
Jim brought out the best in those around him, leaving a legacy of kindness, service and love. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Thank you to Hospice of South Texas for their help, kindness and support.
Jim will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, son, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all.
Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 12th at 1:00 PM, Grace Funeral Home, located at 214 N. Market St. in Goliad, Texas.
Donations can be made to Hospice of South Texas, Goliad Pet Adoption or the charity of your choice.
