James Toben

James Corwin Toben, 69, of Carriere, MS, passed away on November 19, 2024, at Forrest General Hospital. He was born on February 6, 1955, in Missouri. James graduated from Fort Madison High School, home of the Bloodhounds in 1973. He lived and worked in Southeast Iowa much of his early life, where he first started working on the Santa Fe Railroad. It was then, he became the third-generation railroader. He was a lifelong railroader, eventually retiring from Canadian National Railroad, formerly Illinois Central Railroad. James's hobbies consisted of hunting, fishing, and classic car enthusiast but enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Corwin and Erma Toben; two brothers, Richard Toben and Steve Toben. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Toben; two children, Joshua (Elizabeth) Toben and Elijah Toben; two stepchildren, Layla (Maurice) Dutruch and Clinton Hathcox, along with his daughter, Anastasia Marie Hathcox; two sisters, Sandra (Tom) Mohrfeld and Kathy (Kirk) Butler; six grandchildren: Kyler, Alex, Tristian, Zachary, Jordan, and Kylie; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Forrest Funeral Home on December 7, 2024, at 1:00pm.
