On December 6, 2024, Jonathan Joseph Toben, a gifted cellist, passed away at the age of 38.
Jonathan's exceptional talent as a cellist was evident in his performances across Michigan, including a memorable performance at Carnegie Hall. He received instruction from renowned professors Richard Piippo of Hope College, and Suren Bagratuni of Michigan State University. Following his departure from Michigan State University, Jonathan continued to captivate audiences through his performances and teaching endeavors. Additionally, he embarked on a career in fine instrument sales and tonal adjustments at Carl Becker and Sons, a prominent violin shop in Chicago. Jonathan's contributions extended to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and emerging artists in the United States and Europe.
Beyond his musical prowess, Jonathan was renowned for his charismatic personality, ability to engage with diverse audiences, and infectious laughter. His legacy will be cherished for his unwavering passion, exceptional wit, and remarkable talent as a cellist.
Jonathan is survived by his loving parents, Howard Toben and Suzanne Toben, as well as his siblings, Nicholas Toben and Victoria Powers.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, December 11, 2-8PM, at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd., Troy.
Funeral Mass Thursday, December 12, 10AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 4586 N. Adams Rd., Troy.
