James E. Trail, age 70, went to be with the Lord Tuesday January 13, 2026, Born May 2, 1955, he was the son of the late James and Alberta Matheny Trail. He loved the Lord and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved all sports and was a 1974 graduate of Lebanon High School, he retired from Carbo Power Plant coal handling department, He was a faithful member of Weavers Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Timothy Trail; brother, Ernie Roberts; and mother-in-law Pauline Bush.
James is survived by his wife of 52 years Darlene Trail; children: Joe Trail and wife Vernie, Mike Trail and wife Tiffani, and Jon Trail and wife Kelsey; daughter-in-law: Rena Gilbert Grandchildren: Brayden Trail and wife Alexis, Billy Couch, Andrew Couch, Wyatt Trail, Lincoln Trail, Max Trail, Shepard Trail, Kaitlin Hess and husband Jordan, Kara, and joyfully anticipated the arrival of another grandson; great grandchildren: Asher Trail, Samuel Trail, Kinzlee Hess, Easton Hess; siblings: Luther Roberts and wife Dianna, Donna Estes and husband Steve, and Bill Trail and wife Judy; sister-in-law Sue Grindstead and husband John; brothers-in-law: J.C. Bush and wife Quida, Don Bush and wife Ruth, Larry Bush and wife Pat, and Ronnie Bush and wife Debra. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday January 20, 2026, in the Combs-Hess Funeral and Cremation Service chapel with Rev. Rick Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Billy Couch, Emory Phillips and his Sons.
