James Dean Trent, age 69, of Church Road, VA, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Born in Bristol, TN, James grew up an “Army brat,” moving all over the United States and Germany. He was the son of the late Barbara Jean Trent.
James retired from UPS after 34 years of service. Even in retirement, he never quit working. He devoted the past 13 years working at Legacy Monument Design, installing headstones and monuments all over the state. One of his proudest accomplishments was purchasing a tract of land in Church Road, where not only he and Mariellen reside, but also both of his daughters and their families. James was an avid NASCAR fan and a collector of Jeff Gordon memorabilia. Some of his favorite activities were collecting unique yard art, riding his Gator around the family compound, and placing solar lights around just about everything.
James is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mariellen Mauger Trent; his daughters, Jaime Jones and husband, Jared, and Katie Hughes and husband, Britton; his grandchildren, Natalie Jones, Olivia Jones, Ben Jones, Jack Hughes, and Violet Dean Hughes; brothers-in-law, Robbie, Mark, Scott, Paul, Mike, and Gerry, as well as many nieces and nephews, and devoted friends, Doug and Judy Miller.
James will be laid to rest near his home during a private ceremony. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, at Wilson-Hebron-Ford Ruritan Club, Church Road, VA.
