James, "Joe" Joseph VanGorden, 71, of Lindley, NY, passed away on December 4, 2025.

Born in Blossburg PA on February 8th, 1954, Joe was the son of the late Diane Bliss and James VanGorden. Joe graduated from Addison High School in 1972. Joe was a lifelong resident of the area, and enjoyed sharing stories of the various historical events and evolution of the rural towns he saw over his years. In 1972, Joe began a long and committed career with Corning Natural Gas, where he served the company faithfully until his retirement, and then some. Joe started by mowing the company's grounds and worked his way to Senior Corrosion Technician. Joe was a wealth of information in the gas field, helping educate multiple generations of line workers during his tenure. Joe led everyday with Dedication, Integrity, and most importantly Humor.

On January 28th, 1984, Joe married Christine VanGorden, sharing over four decades of marriage. A true sportsman, Joe enjoyed the simple pleasures of the outdoors, often spending time hunting and fishing. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR, rarely missing a race. Joe could often be found sharing a bowl of popcorn with his beloved dog, or making endless pancakes for his Grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his wife, Christine VanGorden; his brother, Michael; and his three children, Kelly VanGorden, Anthony VanGorden, and Kristie (Michael) Grist. His In Laws Helen (Bruce) Davis, Donna (Tom) Thomas, Tiger (Diane) Alexander, Barbie (Dwayne) Bolt, and Michelle Alexander. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren, Keon, Kenzie, Kamya, Cheyenne, Archer, and Mabel.

Joe was predeceased by his sister Victoria, his brother Patrick, his maternal Grandparents, Ruth and Porter Coon. Additionally, his In Laws Kenneth and Barbara Alexander, Cheryl Gee, and John Alexander.

Joe's wishes were that there be no services. The family extends their gratitude for the support provided during this difficult time. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Inc., Funeral Home in Woodhull NY.
