Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maiorano Funeral Home - Waterbury on Jul. 5, 2024.
He Did It His Way
James F. Vitone, Sr., age 94, entered the gates of heaven on Monday, July 1, 2024. He was the loving husband of 72 years to Antonia (Catanzaro) Vitone.
Born in Waterbury on June 11, 1930, Jim was the son of the late Joseph and Marie (Marrone) Vitone. He worked as the Assistant Director of Engineering at Saint Mary's Hospital for over 25 years. Devoted to his family, Jim was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and mentor. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spent most of his happiest times at his cottage and on his pontoon boat on Lake Quassapaug with his family. A genuine "Mr. Fix It", he was always tinkering, fixing, or building things. He enjoyed a great plate of good food and trips to the casino.
In addition to Antonia, his beloved wife, Jim is survived by his children Anita Evans and her husband Thomas of Naugatuck, James Vitone, Jr. and his wife Lynn of Inverness, FL, Paula Sprano and her love Charlie Simpson of Terryville, and Joseph Vitone and his significant other Andrea Russo of West Palm Beach, FL; his grandchildren Amber Pinard and her husband Ryan of New Britain, Robert Sprano, Jr. of Terryville, and Alyssa Vitone of Florida. He also leaves his great-grandchildren Cheyenne, Aaron, Olivia, and Stella; his brother-in-law Donald Luth, several generations of nieces and nephews and his beloved cat Boo Boo. He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph Vitone, Francis Vitone, Alex Vitone, and his sisters Catherine Lango, Evelyn LaFontaine, Carmela Catanzaro and Ann "Anna Mae" Luth.
Jim's funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 10:00am at The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 W. Main St., Waterbury. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private and there are no calling hours. Maiorano Funeral Home has been entrusted with all arrangements.
