Oldtown, MD- James Perry Welsh, Sr., 73, of Oldtown, MD, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at his home.
Born October 5, 1951 in Cumberland, MD, Mr. Welsh was the son of the late Ralph Leo Welsh, Sr. and Delores Juanita (Twigg) Welsh. He was also preceded in death by a son: James P. Welsh, Jr.
James was a graduate of Fort Hill High School Class of 1970, retired from the United States Army Reserves 265th Division and was then active in the Army National Guard for several years.. He retired from General Electric and then worked at Wal-Mart for several years. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God and loved dirt track races especially watching his grandson who just started racing. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play baseball and football.
James is survived by his wife of 47years: Dianna Welsh; his children: Billie-Jean Merrbach and husband Willie; Brendall Mongold and husband Robert; and William Welsh and significant other, Jen; his sister: Sandra Jewell; his brothers: Larry Welsh and wife Carletta; and Ralph Welsh, Jr. and wife Linda; his grandchildren: Kerry, Damon, William (Renee), Steven (Angel), Alicia, Braxton (Katie), Vanessa (Caleb), Madison (Taylor), Jayden (Gage), Meadow(Gerald), Airen (Kaiya), Damon, Tristen, and Travis; and his great-grandchildren: Carmen, Trevor, Carson, Huntyr, Tatium, Peyton, Adonis, Ariella, Alaiyah, Barrett, Matthew, Layla, Addelynn, and one on the way; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 11:00 A.M.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to UPMC –Western Maryland Home Hospice, his sisters-in-law: Yvonne Aldridge, Veronica Hartsock, and Joanna Moulden; and his nieces and nephews for all the care and compassion provided.
