James Whaley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by North Dallas Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Mar. 5, 2026.
James "Butch" Whaley of Denton, Texas, born in 1951, passed away on March 3, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

He lived life the only way he knew how-full throttle. He had a love for fast cars, motorcycles, traveling, good music, and crime shows. In his younger years in Lewisville, Texas, he spent time playing in a band, and music remained something he carried with him throughout his life. Later, he enjoyed nothing more than sitting around with friends while guitars were played, listening to music, sharing stories, and enjoying the company of those around him. Known for his bold personality, sharp humor, and terrible but perfectly delivered jokes, he was someone who never met a stranger. In his younger years he was known by just about everyone in town-especially the local police-but those who knew him best knew the truth behind the reputation: he was fiercely loyal and always stood up for the people he loved. He was the kind of man who had your back without hesitation, and everyone who knew him understood he was a true original and a force to be reckoned with. He was the life of the party, someone whose presence could fill a room with laughter and energy. His adventurous spirit, loyalty, music, and stories will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by the love of his life and his partner in crime, Dorothy Pointer, who stood beside him through life's adventures and shared in countless memories and laughter. He is also survived by Jimmy and Jamie Whaley, Matt and Dyani Merkley and grandchildren: Dylan, Tyler, Brittany, Keilee and Crosby. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were a big part of his life, his adventures, and the love he shared.

Though his ride here has ended, the stories he leaves behind will be told for years to come.
