James A. Wunder, 92, of Bark River (Ford River Twp.), went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at his home with his wife and children at his side.
He was born on August 19, 1933 in Escanaba, the eldest of 11 children to Albert and Corrine (LaValley) Wunder. James was raised in Ford River and began working at the age of 11 at his grandmother's farm in the summers. His job was pitching hay into piles. James continued this work ethic throughout his life and provided well for his family.
On June 21, 1952, James married Carol Ann Williams in Escanaba. They were blessed with eight children and a lifetime of memories.
As a young man, James was a commercial fisherman and then continued to enjoy fishing as a hobby for many years. He also enjoyed hunting.
James worked as a boilermaker for 26 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Boilermakers Local 107 for almost 60 years.
Among survivors include his wife, Carol; children, Deborah (Thomas) Stearns, Brenda (Robert) Ryan, Linda (Wallace) Dahl, James Wunder, William (Shelly), Jeffery (Jacklyn) Wunder, Timothy (Jackie), and Douglas (Brenda) Wunder; 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; siblings, Gertrude Frost, Arnold Wunder, Harley Wunder, Corrine Eichenhoffer, Clifford Wunder, and John Wunder; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Wunder, Milton Wunder, and Chrstine Hughes.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 19th from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jay Gilchrist officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
