Jamie Merritt Bailey

Jamie Merritt Bailey, 78, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Pleasant Hill Congregational Christian Church, 881 Avera Road, Roberta, with visitation beginning at 12:00 PM, followed by funeral service at 1:00 PM. Rev. Russell Whitehurst and Rev. Jimmy Proulx will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Roberta to the late James and Corine Easler Merritt, Jamie graduated from Crawford County High School and was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Congregational Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School, was a Vacation Bible School leader, kept the nursery, and participated in the prayer line. After the death of her parents, Jamie and her sister Elaine went to live with their grandparents, Guy and Mary Easler, and their aunts and uncles, Nathan and Agnes Mathis and Fred and Ora Thaxton. She worked for Shepard Insurance Agency and the Citizens Bank before beginning her career as an administrative secretary at Peach County High School. Jamie loved her family and enjoyed cooking for them, but her most important vocation was being "Nana" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jamie had such a sweet spirit and peaceful presence that will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her and experienced her love.
Left to cherish the memories of this special lady is her beloved husband of 60 years, Charles H. Bailey; their children, Amy and Daryl McElwain and Jeffery and Shannon Bailey; grandchildren, Mark and Amber McElwain, Marie and Ryan Folk, Melinda and Tucker Coody, Hayden and Madi McElwain, Austin and Karlee Bailey, Drew Bailey, and Addie Bailey; great grandchildren, Connor McElwain, Emma Folk, Kendall McElwain, and Kenisyn Bailey; a sister, Elaine Carter; sisters in law, Ethel Miller and Pat Bailey; and a niece, Rhonda and Paul King. She is preceded in death by brothers in law, Ronnie Carter, Billy Miller, and David Bailey.
In lieu of flowers, family respectfully requests donations be made to Pleasant Hill Congregational Christian Church. Rooks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
