Jamie Johnston Warren of Little Rock, Arkansas died peacefully on July 21, 2023 in Little Rock, surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her father James Raymond Johnston, her mother Mildred Maxine Johnston, her brothers James Raymond Johnston Jr and Richard Lewis “Beaver” Johnston, of Heber Springs or Pangburn.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James Terrell Warren of Little Rock, her sons James Johnston Warren (Alta Tharp) of Memphis, Tennessee, and David Wilson Warren (Holly) of Little Rock, granddaughter Lily Elizabeth Warren of Little Rock, step-grandson Elijah Luna of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jamie was born in Pangburn, Arkansas. Her family lived in Pangburn, Arkansas where she spent her childhood riding horses on her father’s farm and going to music lessons in Searcy with her cousins Rachel, Pat, and Nancy.  She cherished her happy childhood memories with her brothers, cousins, and extended family.

She graduated as salutatorian from Pangburn High School, and then attended Blue Mountain College in Mississippi where she graduated with a degree in Education. She attended the University of Mississippi, where she was a founding member on campus of Alpha Omicron Pi. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Jamie and James Warren were married in 1967 in West Memphis. They started their family and lived in Memphis.  In 1977 they moved to Heber Springs to be closer to her mother and father.

Jamie was an elementary educator for 5 years in Memphis and Heber Springs, where she taught first and second grades at Heber Springs Elementary School for 21 years. She loved her students and appreciated being a part of their educational journey.

After her retirement, they settled in Little Rock. Jamie was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she attended Sunday School and taught English as a Second Language.

She enjoyed knitting prayer blankets and attending women’s bible groups. Her other interests included literature, art and visiting with her friends and relatives.

Her Funeral services will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Main Street in North Little Rock, Arkansas on Friday, July 28, 2023 at 2:30 pm. Visitation will precede the services at 1:30 pm.

A private burial will be held at Henderson Cemetery in Pangburn.

Gifts in her honor may be made to Blue Mountain Christian University in Mississippi.
