On November 27, 2024, Jan ran into the arms of her Savior, the Lord Jesus. Known as the family's "Energizer Bunny," we know she ran because she never, ever did anything without an abundance of energy.
Jan was the dearly loved mother of Richard and Michael Money, and grandmother to Chase, Keegan, Caraline, Cole, and Cade Money, and Maddox Hasson. She was adored by her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Money, and by Megan Hasson.
She is survived by her siblings and their spouses: Joseph Wood (Anne), Donald Zern, Sharon Z. Lloyd (David), Patricia Z. Petro (Ken), William Zern (Cynthia), Linda Z. Sikes (Raymond), and Russell Zern (Laura). She will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who loved her smile and energetic approach to life. Additionally, there were those not related by blood but by love, who called her MomMom Jan, and who will miss her dearly.
In August 1956, Jan's parents, Harold and Ethelyn Zern (deceased) bought their farm outside of Townsend, Delaware and shortly thereafter, Jan was welcomed into the growing Zern family where her nurturing personality flourished. Growing up on a farm fostered her life-long love for being outdoors. Walking the wooded trails, driving tractors, helping her dad milk cows, and playing baseball in the pasture led to her pursuits as she grew older. Her gardening skills produced an abundance of flowers and vegetables which she joyfully shared with others. Boating, kayaking, crabbing, and fishing were passions she loved to share with her family. She especially enjoyed jumping ocean waves with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Whether you knew Jan from her decades of managing Money's Farm Market, working at both Coleman's Christmas Tree Farm and Willey Farms, or most recently as a substitute cafeteria worker in the local schools, you likely benefited from her work ethic, loved her smile and laughter, and admired those beautiful blue eyes.
In high school, Jan was a spitfire on the hockey field, earning her the Defensive MVP Award her senior year. Her love for sports remained well into adulthood as she attended Middletown High School football games religiously and recently has been a consistent presence at her grandsons' soccer games. The Odessa High School soccer team along with the MOT Little League teams benefited from her enthusiastic and often loud cheering from the sidelines.
Jan dedicated herself to serving others in various ministries at Townsend Church. She loved Pastor Tim, Pastor Alan, and her entire church family, who have supported Jan in ways too numerous to mention. She was quick to provide friends and neighbors with meals, vegetables from her garden, and other acts of kindness which were an extension of her unwavering faith and love for God.
A service celebrating Jan's life will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 6:30 pm at Townsend Church, 4519 Dupont Parkway, Townsend, DE 19734. Visitation will be from 5-6 pm, as well as immediately following the service.
In keeping with Jan's cheerful spirit, please wear something that makes you happy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jan's memory to Townsend Church or to New Missions, P.O. Box 2727, Orlando, FL 32802-2727. New Missions is an organization in Haiti which educates and cares for a child Jan sponsors.

I worked with Ms.Jan at Chickfila in Middletown De, she trained me on making salads & other Prep Items. Jan was a beautiful person who loved life & was devoted to her family. See had the prettiest "BlueEyes" & had a contagious smile. She was a gentle soul. May her smile live on in our hearts as she meets Jesus in Heaven to continue to do the work of the Lord, & to be among the Angels praising our God. You will be well missed. Carol King
