Jane Anne Thompson, age 89, a resident of Portland, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis.

Jane Anne was born June 28, 1936, in Portland, Indiana, the daughter of Virgil T. and Marianna (Wheeler) Smith. She graduated from Portland High School in 1954 and married Gene Thompson on September 24, 1960, he passed away on January 29, 2007.

Jane Anne worked for Jay School Corporation as Secretary for the Superintendent and Treasurer of the corporation. She also worked at First National Bank in Portland for 19 years, retiring in 1998. She served on the Jay School Corporation Board of Trustees from 1978-1994 and was board President for the 1981-1983 and 1987-1988. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland and the Evening Optimist Club.

Survivors include:

2 sisters: Barbara Tuttle (husband Mark) – Eaton, Indiana

Kim Bye (husband Rodney) – Portland, Indiana

Grandchildren: Shanna Young (husband Chad) and Caleb Bye

Great-Grandchildren: Daylen, Hunter, Gavin, Chandler and Sawyer Young

Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Marianna Smith and a sister, Jeannie Habegger.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2–4 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, 289 S. 200 W., Portland, Indiana 47371. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. at the church. Pastor Hugh Kelly will officiate and burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery, southeast of Portland.

Memorials may be directed towards Upward City Church in Ravenna, Ohio.
