Obituary of Jane M. Fisher
Jane Marie Fisher, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away after a short illness on August 13, 2025. She was 88 years old.
Jane was born in Waltham, Massachusetts, one of three children of William and Gertrude Lanagan. She grew up in Waltham and graduated from Saint Mary's High School, where she was a proud cheerleader. Jane cherished her childhood memories, lifelong friendships, and always loved connecting with fellow Waltham natives.
After high school, she attended the Chandler School in Boston and later worked as an administrative assistant at Sylvania. Upon the birth of her first child, Jane embraced motherhood wholeheartedly. Being a homemaker became her top priority, and she gave it her all. She kept her active children on schedule and grounded in strong values that continue to guide them today.
In 1959, Jane and her husband, Jim, moved to Burlington, where they raised their family and lived until 1993. Jane took great pride in her home. She loved decorating, entertaining, and hosting gatherings for family and friends. Her backyard-and especially the pool-was a beloved summer hangout for both her children and their friends. When the children were grown, Jane and Jim downsized and found a new home in Chelmsford.
Jane and Jim shared a deep and devoted partnership. Jim, ever the adventurer, embraced life with energy and vision. Jane was always at his side, supporting his dreams and decisions. Whether joining him on boating excursions-eventually becoming the "reluctant First Mate" aboard their 36-foot cruiser-or helping with his golf apparel business, Jane was his constant partner. While Jim was a member of the Newton Yacht Club, Jane enjoyed being part of the club's auxiliary. Their bond was marked by mutual respect, balance, and deep love and devotion to each other.
Above all, Jane was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She was always there for her family-as their biggest cheerleader at sporting events, a fierce advocate, and a guiding presence. While Jim was often seen as the captain of their family's ship, Jane was the one who kept it afloat, managing the countless details that kept their household running smoothly. She especially loved their annual summer vacations to Martha's Vineyard by boat-times filled with laughter and lasting memories.
Jane's faith was a guiding light in her life. As a devout Catholic, she attended Mass each week with quiet reverence and deep devotion, finding strength and peace in her spiritual practice. She enjoyed daily walks at the mall or on the beach and loved to host social gatherings. In recent years, she became very involved with the Burlington Council on Aging, where she enjoyed bingo, movie nights, singalongs, socials, exercise classes, and even attended the Senior Prom. She was an avid reader, a beloved regular at the local library where she eagerly checked out novels by some of her favorite authors like Phyllis Whitney and Mary Higgins Clark.
Jane lived a beautiful life-one full of love, laughter, adventure, and connection. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Jane was the beloved wife of the late James Fisher, Jr. She was the loving mother of Deborah Johnson of Devens, James F. Fisher, III & his wife Mia of Grafton, Kevin Fisher of Grenada Hills, CA and Karen Sheppard of Danvers. She was the proud grandmother of Nicholas Johnson, Courtney Bastos & her husband Wel, Patrick Johnson, Olivia Fisher, William Fisher, Kevin Fisher, Rylee Sheppard and Adrian Olivares & his wife Allie, and Amanda Olivares & her companion Deci Rodriguez. She was the great grandmother of Nerea, Naia, Elena, and Chloe. She was the sister of the late Patricia Ohnemus & her surviving husband Bernard Ohnemus and the late William Lanagan & his surviving wife Helen of Burlington. She was the Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
