ABBEVILLE...Jane Benton Greene, a resident of Abbeville, died early Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025, in Westside Terrace in Dothan. She was 93. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 3, 2025, in the Spring Hill Baptist Church, 64 County Road 350, Troy, Alabama 36079, with Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to S.H.A.R.K., P.O. Box 126, Abbeville, AL 36310. Mrs. Greene was born in Enterprise, Alabama, daughter of the late William Roy Benton and Julia Ballard Benton. She received a B. S. Degree and a Masters Degree both in Education from Troy University. Mrs. Greene lived in various locations while her husband served in the United States Army and taught school while her husband served in the military. She and her husband moved to Holiday Shores on Lake Eufaula in 1977. Mrs. Greene was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Abbeville. She had a "Green Thumb" and was a life member of the Abbeville Garden Club and a National Life Member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. She collected figurines including ceramic and glass frogs. Mrs. Greene and her late husband travelled extensively throughout the world. She was preceded in death by husband, Earnest Lee Greene (Lt. Colonel, U. S. Army, Retired), a daughter, Julie Greene Burch, a son, Durwood "Woody" Greene, a grandson, James Benjamin Greene, and a brother, Ben Benton. Surviving relatives include a son, Lee Greene, Abbeville; a daughter-in-law, Jo Ellen Greene, Calera, AL; grandchildren, Joey Greene, Ben Greene, Matt Greene and Maureen Greene Zimmerman (Dr. David Zimmerman); eleven great-grandchildren, two nieces and a nephew.
