Jane Evelyn Bridges Smith, age 78, peacefully passed away from this life on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Jane was born on June 27, 1946, in Port Neches, Texas, to James Bridges and Bonnie (Victor) Bridges. She married the love of her life, Larry Smith, in 1965 starting an incredible sixty years of marriage. Together, they created many wonderful memories with their children: David, Jennifer, and Matthew. She was a beloved wife, mother, and friend to many.
For over 20 years, Jane taught at Aledo High School. With her creative talents, she was a published playwright, as well as an accomplished artist and painter. She was a member of the Central Christian Church and active in the Women’s Ministries of the Disciples of Christ. Through the years Jane positively affected many lives of the young and old by always bringing her whimsical love, peace and balance with all things she touched. Jane was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her as her spirit lives on through the ripples of her loving impact on those who have been around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Walter and Bonnie Belle Bridges, and her brother, James Bridges.
Jane is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Larry G. Smith of Willow Park, Texas; her son, David Smith, and his wife, April; her daughter, Jennifer Sowers, and her husband, Max; her son, Matthew Smith; five grandchildren, Alexis Smith, Devin Smith and wife, Morgan, Ethan Sowers, Jacob Sowers, and Caleb Sowers; and one great-grandson, Knox Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Central Christian Church, 1602 South Main Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086, officiated by Dan Simmons.
The funeral chapel is not involved in the service.
