Jane W. Smith, 83, of Malone and formerly of Bangor, New York, passed away on August 14, 2025, at the Alice Center with her family by her side. Calling hours will be held on August 22, 2025, from 2pm to 4pm at Frary Funeral Home in Malone. Burial will be held privately in the Bangor Cemetery.
Born in Malone on September 12, 1941, Jane was the daughter of the late Herbert E. and Calla C. (Barse) Wilson. She graduated from Franklin Academy in 1959. After graduation, Jane worked as a secretary for Judge Lawrence until her marriage to Raymond C. Smith. Ray and Jane were married on August 18, 1962 at the Bangor Methodist Church. Raymond passed on August 13, 2001. After marriage, Jane became a housewife and a stay-at-home mother, devoting her love and attention to their three daughters. However, after her own mothers passing in 1986, Jane assumed her mother's duties at the Bangor rural postal station. She worked there until the Postal Service closed the area rural stations. Jane was a member of the Home Bureau, which crafted displays for the Franklin County Fair. She also was a member of the Bangor Methodist Church's women's group. Jane loved to sew, do crafts, paint ceramics, and knit. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, shopping on QVC, giving generously to other people, listening to all genres of music, and spending time with her family.
Jane is survived by her three daughters: Laurie Smith of Earlville, Stephanie Rae Smith of Brushton, and Erin Smith-Wood (Dominic Gaurin) of Bangor; five grandchildren: Amanda, Kyle, Rebecca, Madison, and Jonah, six great-grandchildren, and a son-in-law Wade Wood. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Raymond, her brother, Keith Wilson, and her sister, Anne Pindar.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Alice Center for taking care of their mother for over 15 years.
