With great sadness we announce the passing of Janet Marie Arnold (age 77) on Saturday, August 26, 2023, our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all whose lives she touched.
Janet was born November 20, 1945 to Joseph and Elizabeth Simkus and was welcomed home by her sisters, Patricia (Crump) and Barbara (Konkolesky) and brother James (Simkus).
Growing up her family moved many times and she met many new friends along the way. But by far, her favorite was a handsome man named Bruce Weston Arnold, who she fell in love with and married August 10, 1963 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. They were married 38 years until his passing in 2001. Together they had three children, David George, Donna Lynn and Crystal Marie. With the addition of Bruces two children, Bruce "Butch" and Cheryl, making their lives complete.
Janet treasured her children and loved spending time with them. She adored her role as Grandma/Grams/Mima being cherished by her grandchildren Holly (Ryan), Nicole (Owen), Trevor, Laura, Aaron and great grandchildren Remi and Porter, with the added bonus of step grandchildren, Evol, Elly, Nathan, Brett and their children. She was especially looking forward to the arrival of Baby Bischoff in January.
Janet was a woman of many talents. She was a gifted musician playing piano, guitar and accordion, which was a favorite at family events. She also loved singing in the Romeo Community Chorus with her longtime friend, JoAnne Arft. She was very skilled at crocheting, often donating hats, scarves and slippers to various charities. She loved her puzzles, painting and anything crafty. She enjoyed snowmobiling adventures, camping with family and morning coffee with friends.
Janet was an active member in the Armada Community serving for many years as church treasurer, Secretary of the Armada Lioness Club and Sexton of Willow Grove Cemetery.
In 1988, Jan became co-owner of the Armada Ace Hardware along with her partner Roxann Wood. The hardware store became a gathering place where friends were made and stories shared over coffee and pretzels. Jan enjoyed their business until her retirement in 2007.
Janet was blessed with love a second time when she met Gerard Wylin. They spent 11 wonderful years enjoying life together until his passing in 2013.
Janet will be sadly missed by her daughters Donna Pickett (Joseph Smithson) and Crystal (Michael) Pollock, grandchildren Holly (Ryan) Cyplik, Nicole Pickett (Owen Bischoff), Trevor Pickett, Laura and Aaron Pollock, great grandchildren Remi and Porter Cyplik, step children Bruce Patrick, Cheryl (Timothy) Gill and their children, sisters Patricia Crump, Barbara Konkolesky, Brother-in-law, Duane Arnold, sister-in-law, Sharon Spurrier and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Bruce Arnold, infant son David, parents Joseph and Elizabeth Simkus, brother James Simkus, Fiance' Gerard Wylin and many other cherished family members and friends.
