Janet Mandell Davies

Janet (Jan) Mandell Davies, passed away peacefully July 21th, 2024, at the family farmhouse in Congers, NY surrounded by her family. She was 88 years old.
Jan was born April 20th, 1936 in Mount Vernon, NY, to Adolf and Mabel Mandell. She was raised in Westchester, graduating from Tuckahoe High School and University of Potsdam Teachers College. From 1957-1962 she taught elementary school in the Clarkstown School District and lived in the Cozy Cottages in Rockland Lake, with friends. She met her husband Niles M Davies, Jr., in 1961 on a blind date. They married in 1962 and she made a life on the family farm, raising the apples of her eye, their three children, Niles M. Davies, III, Lee A. Davies and Chris Davies Nevin.
Jan is survived by her three Children Niles and his wife Anne, Lee and his wife Christine, Chris and her husband Jeff Nevin. The 8 grandchildren that called her Mama included Shannon, Cailyn, Casey, Jeffrey, Niles, Thomas, Nicholas and Matthew. She is also survived by her sister Judith (Mandell) Faro of Colorado and many loving nieces and nephews. Jan also had her farm family – the loyal and dedicated employees whom she loved dearly.
Jan ran the household and was the heart, soul and backbone that kept the business running. She was involved in running the farms retail and wholesale businesses while Niles farmed the land.
Over her many years living in Congers, Jan was involved in countless local institutions and volunteer organizations. She was a trustee for the Historical Society of Rockland, volunteered with the Helen Hayes Theater, was devoted to the Helen Hayes Hospital Foundation, taught reading for the Rockland County Literacy Volunteers, volunteered with Boys Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts, volunteered with Rockland Center for the Arts and Up with People and was an active board member of the Congers Civic association where she was Vice President and Committee Chair for the Annual Scholarship Committee.
After losing her husband, Niles in 2014, Jan took over all operations of running Dr. Davies Farm. While taking over the business was daunting, she did so with passion ( and with the amazing farm family's help and expertise) and with the purpose of continuing the legacy of Dr. Davies Farm for all of Rockland to enjoy.
Jan loved to travel, entertain, cook and bake with her grandkids, was a foodie and loved to go out to eat with friends and a good game of Rumikub or kings in the corner was always a favorite. Most of all, Jan loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren who gratefully live close by and visited daily. Her house had a revolving door for daily family time.
On behalf of the family we would like to thank Aelite Senior Care and the "ladies" that took such good care of her and became part of the Davies Family. We are forever grateful for them all. Also, a heartfelt thank you to United Hospice of Rockland for assisting with end of life care.

The Family will be accepting visitors on Wednesday July 24th, 2024 from 4pm -8pm at Sorce Funeral Home in West Nyack, NY. A celebration of life will be planned for the Spring of 2025 at the family home.
