Janet Fay Gender, 87, of Glen Burnie, passed away on October 27, 2023. Janet was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to the late Hazle and Paul Marshall. After graduating High School she worked in the office at Woodlawn Dairy. She earned her certification from Wilkes-Barre Business School. She later married in 1959 and moved to Maryland with her husband. When her three children were in elementary school Janet became a Teacher’s Aid and later became a school secretary. She became a principal’s secretary at Rippling Woods Elementary School in Anne Arundel County. Janet enjoyed singing and was a member of the Harundale Presbyterian Church Choir and later a member of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Choral Group. She was also a Deacon at Harundale Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, singing, cross stitch, knitting, bingo and was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan.
In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her devoted husband of 59 years, Charles A. Gender. Janet is survived by her loving children, Paul Gender (Linda), Lynn Hause (Eric), and Charles Gender (Nada); her cherished grandchildren, Ashleigh Cadwallader (Ryan), Erin Walker (Joseph), Kelly Hatcher (Daulton), Stephanie Hause, Jason Gender and Jordan Gender; her beloved great-grandchildren, Violet & Wyatt Walker, Ruby & Kit Cadwallader, and Cole & Tate Hatcher; and her dear siblings, Audrey Frankenfield (Jack) and Thelma Marshall.
Visitation will be held at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, Glen Burnie, on Monday, November 6th, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, November 7th at 1 PM, in the funeral home chapel. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park.
