Janet R. Heckman, of Mifflintown, passed away at 5:15 PM on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin. Born on February 5, 1925 in McAlisterville, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Jay Ronald Roush and Laura Ruth (Knouse) Roush. She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Lloyd Heckman, Jr. who passed away on December 16, 2004. Janet is survived by her son Thomas S. Heckman and daughter Judith Heckman Proch and husband Fred, a brother Dick Roush and wife Loretta. three grandchildren, Lara Leo and husband Kevin, Joshua Proch and wife Tammy, and Jill Proch Pastore. She is also survived by great grandchildren Courtney Leo Chapin and husband Ian, Alexandra Leo, Luca Pastore, Gabriella Pastore and one great-great grandchild that is due to be born close to what would have been Janet's one hundredth birthday. She was employed at Lewistown Hospital as a registered nurse after which she then taught special education. Janet was a member of Lost Creek Presbyterian Church in McAlisterville as well as the Retired School Employees Association. She volunteered at Abundant Blessings. Mrs. Heckman enjoyed doing crafts and reading, and especially enjoyed traveling. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, 517 Main Street, P.O. Box 91, McAlisterville with the Rev. Graham Fowler officiating. Interment will be held at the Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlisterville. A viewing will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Heckman's memory to the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, 517 Main Street, McAlisterville, PA 17049. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown. Online condolences and tributes can be shared with the family at www.brownfuneralhomesinc.com.
