Janet Hunter Horn, age 92 of Maggie Valley, North Carolina sadly left our world on June 7, 2025.
Born April 2, 1933 in Syracuse, New York, Janet was the daughter of Joseph and Martha Hunter, originally of Old Cumnock, Scotland. The family immigrated to the United State before Janet was born. She was the youngest of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death: Joseph Hunter, Alec Hunter, Jim Hunter, Martha Long, Eddy Hunter, Robert Hunter, and Thomas Hunter.
On January 31, 1953 Janet married Joseph Horn. They welcomed three children and in 1962 the family relocated to Fort Pierce, Florida to escape the cold Syracuse winters. There they built a new home and lived for many decades. Janet and Joe loved to travel and found their way to Maggie Valley, North Carolina. They spent many summers there enjoying the beauty of the mountains and escaping the Florida heat eventually settling there permanently.
She loved small poodle breeds and had many pets over the years that accompanied them on their travels bringing much comfort and joy.
Janet, a devout Catholic, was a member of Saint Margaret of Scotland for many years where she played organ and actively participated in the Holy Spirit Prayer Group. Later she transferred to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Waynesville.
She loved people and never met a stranger. Often talking to them about Jesus and all the blessings she received from him. She was a prayer warrior and comforter of those suffering.
For many years she and Joe enjoyed going to Dollywood to take in the shows and people watch. Their favorite group was The Kingdom Heirs and Janet would light up and tap her feet while listening to their inspirational music.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years Joseph, Bonnie Kinley of California, Mark Horn and his wife Gwen of Waynesville, Kevin Horn of Maggie Valley, grandchildren, Crystal Quinby (Q) of Washington, Joseph Horn (Caityn) of Mississippi, her great grandson Sawyer Horn, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will take place Saturday, June 21, 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 234 Church Street, Waynesville, North Carolina. A reception will follow followed by a private interment.
