Janet Mahn

Janet Sue Mahn, 81, passed away on September 25, 2022, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born in Manhattan, Kansas to Byron and Ruby Quinby. Janet grew up in Larned, Kansas and graduated from Larned High School. She held a nursing degree from Stormant Vail University and was a registered nurse. She retired from the position as the operating room director at Wolfson's Children's in 2005. She held similar positions at Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville, Florida and Putnam Community Hospital in Palatka, Florida.
Janet was full of life. She was always a nurse helping others. She was the guiding light to many people through their medical journeys and recoveries.
She had a love of animals – horses, dogs, and cats. Her love of surgery came from assisting her veterinarian father in operating and healing many types of animals. She loved to fish. She loved gardening and flowers, particularly roses. She was an avid sports fan for all football and college basketball. Her preferred teams were the Florida Gators, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Kansas Jayhawks.
She loved to go to the beach and travel. Her travels took her throughout the United States and England. She spent many a day raft surfing the waves at Crescent Beach, Florida.
She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Jackie Walker and her grandson, Jon-Ryan Nazworth. Janet is survived by her sister Judy Esser (George), brother-in-law Robert Walker, her fiancé, J. David Knapp, her son Stephen Mahn (Daphne), Susan Hayes, Sheri Hall (Jim), seven grandchildren – Stevie, Savannah, Cameron, Molly, Triston, Kayla and Randy, and four great grandchildren – Noah, Blake, Ezra and Julian.
A visitation will be held for Janet on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 10:00am to 12:00pm, with a Celebration of Life at 12:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223. A reception will immediately follow.
Janet will be buried in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at a graveside service on October 8, 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
