Lynch Family Funeral Home - LondonJanet Newberry, 85, passed away on November 22, 2025. She was born on December 30, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio, to Reverend Harley Bennett and Evelyn Bennett. She was a proud resident of London, Ohio and was a 1958 graduate of Springfield High School.
Janet is survived by her spouse Richard Newberry, her sons David (Diane) and Dale (Kandy) Sollars, along with Cynthia and Scott (Karen) Newberry, her sisters Betty (Bob) Ogilvie and Sandra (Rod) Weatherwax, with many grand and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Marlyn Sollars on July 20, 1989
Janet, Janie or mom depending on how you knew her was proud to put her energies and efforts to be a stay at home mom. She gave her boys and many of their friends a safe and snack filled place to hang out, talk and play pool! Her family was always welcomed to share any bounty there was at her home, tailgates or tent camping. She was renowned for her costumes and decorations at Halloween and her skill at baking family sized customized cake creations before it became a thing! No family gathering, Cub Scout meeting or church event was complete without the addition of one of her special cakes!
Janet turned her abundant and jubilant energies towards supporting other families, by joining the Day Care Center at the Presbyterian Church and later in London working with Children’s Family Services. Over the years, many of her former kids she had at daycare continued to reach out to her with periodic updates of graduations, work promotions, weddings and the birth of their new generations. She was honored to be included in those memories and proud of the positive impact she could make to families in both vocational pursuits.
A leader by instinct, groundbreaking and sometimes rebellious through her actions, Janet held many leadership roles in the organizations she volunteered with. Contribution to community and family was the foundation of her life’s efforts.
She was blessed in her life to experience wonderful adventures including her days in London, Lake Ashton Florida, the Caribbean and throughout Europe. Making cherished friends was her way of sharing the spark of life she embodied with those around her.
The family invites you to a memorial service to remember and honor Janet Newberry on Monday, December 8, 2025 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Lynch Family Funeral Home, 124 East High Street, London, Ohio 43140, 740-852-9212 for more information [email protected]
