Janet Tevlin Obituary

Janet was happiest when she was singing. Throughout her life, she sang with various church choirs, with the University of Detroit Chorus, and with the Metropolitan Detroit Chorale for over 50 years. She was also an avid gardener, a frequent volunteer at church and for various charities, and an accomplished interior decorator. With her warm and engaging personality and her clever sense of humor, Janet made friends wherever she went.
At mid-life, Janet returned to her career and began teaching English at Capac High School. She loved teaching and took pride in instilling an appreciation for literature and the English language in the many Capac seniors lucky enough to take her class. She completed her master's degree from Oakland University at age 50 and went on to become Head of the English Department. Her passion for reading stayed with her long into retirement, as did her inclination to improve incorrect grammar whenever she encountered it.
Janet was a devoted and treasured mother to her two daughters, Kelly Taylor and Stacey Tevlin (David Palmer). She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Madeline and Emma Taylor and Silas and Abraham Palmer, her cherished sister, Mary Bowler, her brother-in-law, Richard Ravetta, as well as many close nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Donald, her parents, Felicien and Georgina LeComte, her sisters, Phyllis Wlodyga and Louise Ravetta, and her brother Roger LeComte. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 20th, from 4-8 pm at Wujek - Calcaterra & Sons Inc., (Shelby) 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. Funeral Wednesday, May 21st, Instate from 10:30am until time of 11am Mass at SS John & Paul Catholic Church, 7777 28 Mile Rd., Washington, MI 48094. Janet loved spring flowers, but for those who choose to make a donation, contributions to the American Cancer Society are gratefully appreciated.
