Karen Sue Miceli

Karen Sue Miceli of Washington Township Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on August 14, 2025.
Karen was born to Herschel and Mary Underwood in Detroit on May 31, 1952. She was a 1970 graduate of Madison High School in Madison Heights, Michigan and after graduation worked for a time at Michigan Bell Telephone in Royal Oak, Michigan.
She married Luca Miceli in 1973 at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Madison Heights and had two children. They lived for a time in Warren, later moving to Shelby Township before relocating to their current home in Washington Township. In later years, they enjoyed time with family and friends at their winter home in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida; and at their summer cottage at Hubbard Lake, Michigan.
Karen was an accomplished seamstress and business owner. She first learned to sew from relatives and later developed the art of drapery making, learning from family, friends and other professionals in the industry. This led her to found Accent Custom Drapery in 1987. She instructed many classes at national conferences on drapery fabrication, and, in 1992, she co-founded the Greater Detroit Workroom Association.
Over the years, Karen had a rich creative life, sewing her own clothes and creating special gifts for her children, grandchildren and other loved ones. She also loved watercolor painting, swimming in the ocean, camping, birdwatching and catching a sunset over the lake.
Karen is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 52 years, Luca Miceli; two children, Antonina Miceli and Joseph (Maria) Miceli; three grandchildren Gabriella, Aidan and Christopher Miceli; two sisters, Donna (Bill) Remer and Mary (David) Faley; four brothers, James Herschel (Elizabeth) Underwood, Paul Underwood, Philip Underwood and Patrick (Sheila) Underwood. She was predeceased by her parents in 2015 and by a brother, John Wiley Underwood, in 1974.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to:
· Humble Design, a charity that changes lives and communities by custom designing and fully furnishing home interiors for individuals, families and veterans emerging from homelessness in Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and San Diego.
· Angels of Hope, a charity that provides critical support to Michigan families directly impacted by cancer.
· Michigan Nature Association, a Michigan-based charity that is dedicated to permanently protecting land that provides critical habitat for rare, threatened and endangered species and natural communities.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 10:30am until the time of the Funeral Service 11am at Wujek - Calcaterra & Sons Inc., (Shelby) 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. Interment to take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township, MI. The family will announce details shortly for a memorial gathering and celebration of life to be held in late September.
