Janeth Mandell Kendra

Janeth Kendra, age 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Schaumburg, IL, on June 11, 2025. Born on October 17, 1944, at Chanute Air Force Base near Champaign, IL, Jan lived a vibrant life rooted in resilience, compassion, and deep love for animals.
Jan's professional journey included roles as a secretary, realtor, and small business owner-leading both a home cleaning service and a pet sitting company. Her entrepreneurial spirit was matched by her unwavering dedication to service and care.
A devoted mother, Jan experienced the heartbreaking loss of her son, Thomas Mandell, at the age of 24. In his memory, she channeled her grief into support for others, leading a bereaved parents group that became a source of healing for many.
A lifelong animal lover, Jan rescued and rehomed dozens of feral cats and kittens. She shared a special bond with her own beloved cats over the years, especially Rocky, Maggie, Jordan, and Toby.
Jan is survived by a brother, nephew, extended family, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary (Briston) Wolfe, and her son, Thomas.
Jan's legacy is one of strength, generosity, and compassion-especially toward the voiceless and vulnerable. Her memory will live on in every life she touched, both human and animal.
Those closest to Jan wish to thank her caregivers and St. Croix Hospice for their care during her final month.
