ALICE MCALEAVY Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Michaels Funeral Home and Cremation Care on Feb. 5, 2026.
Alice Mary McAleavy (née Hoban), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026. Daughter of the late Martin and Catherine Hoban, Alice was born March 3, 1943 in County Mayo, Ireland. She immigrated to the U.S. at age 17, where she later met her husband, Daniel McAleavy, and raised four children.

Alice was a hard worker with a heart of gold. She knit shawls for the sick through her church, St. Matthews, now the Holy Archangels Parish. She loved a good Irish jig, a good craic, spending time with her family, traveling, and having a nice meal at a restaurant. She always found the time to tell you a long story. She also loved to read obituaries.

She is preceded in death by her husband Daniel and siblings Frank, John, Kathleen, and Michael. She is survived by her brother Tony; children Kathleen (Alfonso) Cortez, Mary Poulsen, Daniel McAleavy, and Kevin McAleavy; her grandchildren, Shannon (Nick), Alexis (Trevor), Christian, and Samantha; and her great grandchildren, Kylie and Aviana.

Services will be held at Holy Archangels Parish, at the St. Matthew Catholic Church campus, 1001 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg, IL, on February 7, 2026 at 10:00am. Following services, she will be laid to rest at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery in Palatine, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shawl Ministry at the Holy Archangel Parish in Hoffman Estates.
