Janice Kay Friley, of Moore, Oklahoma, passed peacefully from this life and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 6, 2025, at the age of 85. She was surrounded by her family. Janice was born on September 9, 1939, in Hutchinson, Kansas. On June 21, 1967, she married Jim Friley, and they celebrated 55 years of marriage in 2022. Janice lived a full and faithful life, centered on love for her Heavenly Father, her family, her church, and her community.
She is survived by her cherished daughter, Sharla Aspenson and her husband, David, of Iowa; her brother, Richard Hoffman (Melva) of Texas; her sisters, Linda Wince (Rick) of Illinois and Karen Khourie of Oklahoma; her devoted daughter-in-law, Rita Jones of Oklahoma, whom she loved like a second daughter; and her son-in-law, Ron Reid of Kansas. Janice also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Brian Reid (Michele) of Kansas, Anthony Jones of Oklahoma, Brianna Walderbach (Chad) of Iowa, and Daniel Glenn of Iowa; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss her dearly. Along with her very special friends Natasha and Otis Kelly and their family. She also leaves behind her precious fur baby, Sassy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Verna Mae and Elvin Hoffman; her husband, Jim; her daughter, Melody Reid; her son, Gary Jones; her sister, Joyce Anderson; and brothers-in-law, Randy Anderson and Bill Khourie.
Janice and her husband, Jim, made Coffeyville, Kansas, their home for many years before moving to Moore, Oklahoma. She was a dedicated member of Coffeyville First Assembly of God Church and was actively involved in her church community-preparing meals, participating in senior group trips, and serving wherever she was needed. Her life was a reflection of her strong spiritual devotion. Janice also enjoyed reading-especially her Bible and Christian fiction-and found great comfort and joy in her faith.
For most of her career, Janice worked in the City Clerk's office in Coffeyville, where she was known for her diligence and for the deep friendships she formed with co-workers. Outside of work and church, she loved spending time with her family. Years ago, Janice and her husband, Jim, enjoyed square dancing and even participated in several competitions.
Family was at the heart of Janice's life. She loved celebrating holidays and hosting gatherings at her home, with Thanksgiving being her favorite time to bring everyone together. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be remembered and treasured always.
