Janice "MeMe" Leonard, age 83, of Eagletown, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the Little River Nursing & Rehab in Ashdown, Arkansas. She was born on Wednesday, September 10, 1941, to Jesse and Prudence Davis Litchford in Eagletown, Oklahoma.
Janice, lovingly known as "MeMe" to everyone who knew her, lived a life filled with love, faith, and service. For 35 years, she dedicated herself to teaching at the Eagletown Head Start, where she touched countless young lives and made a lasting impact on her community.
Her faith in God guided her every step, and she was a devoted member of the Eagletown Methodist Church for more than 66 years. She also served faithfully on the Eagletown Cemetery Board for over a decade, giving her time and heart to the place she called home.
Family was the center of Janice's world. She loved her family dearly and found her greatest joy in being "MeMe" to her grandchildren, who held the most special place in her heart.
Janice will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her lifelong devotion to teaching and service, and the love she shared so freely with her family, friends, and community.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Leonard; two sons, Russell Leonard and Rodney Leonard; six brothers, Raymond Litchford, Jesse Litchford, Jim Litchford, Ralph Bassham, Archie Bassham and Forney Bassham; eight sisters, Floy Green, Alice Covington, Georgia Powers, Lavada Wafford, Anna Mae Haltom, Margie Horvath, Josephine Litchford and Drucilla Taylor.
Janice is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Bruce Hopson of Eagletown, Oklahoma and Christie and Gary Branson of Eagletown, Oklahoma; her other daughter, Marsha London of Eagletown, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at the Eagletown Methodist Church with Joe Cook and Don Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the Eagletown Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 5, 2025, from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
