CAMDEN Janice (Bowley) Manus passed away peacefully at Sussman House on August 15, 2022.
She was 73 and suffered from Parkinson s disease with Lewy Body dementia for a number of years.
Janice was born at the old Camden Hospital on Mountain Street on January 29, 1949, and was the
daughter of Lorin E. Bowley and Martha (Roberts) Bowley. She laughed, pedaled her bike, and excelled
as a student. After graduating from Camden high school in 1967, her mother s roots in Tallahassee,
Florida, drew her to Florida State University where she met and later married James Manus. They were
blessed with a daughter, Jennifer. Although they later divorced, Janice maintained a close friendship
with Jimmy and his wife Mary Jo, sharing many holidays and special occasions together as a family.
Known to all as a kind, giving, and loving soul, Janice pursued a fitting career in nursing. Eventually
settling in Atlanta, Georgia, she worked for several years as charge nurse of a hospital surgical unit,
followed by many years at Roswell OB/GYN.
Janice was active in her local church, the Dunwoody Women s Club, and volunteered for the Atlanta
Assistance League.
Along with her dearest friend, Lynn (McComiskey) Bushee, she fulfilled her long held dream of coming home to Camden, Maine, in 2015, where she joined the Rockport Garden Club and learned to play
Mahjongg. Although diagnosed with Parkinson s in 2015, she continued to live a full life until a hip
fracture contributed to her declining health, and her dementia escalated.
Janice is survived by her devoted daughter, Jennifer of Camden; sister Sharon (Bowley) Kolb of Atlanta,
sister Sandra Bowley of Camden; niece, Laura Kolb Erspamer and husband Chad Erspamer of Virginia;
nephews, Glenn Kolb and Matthew Kolb; great nephews, Camden Kolb, Noah and Dylan Erspamer. She
is predeceased by parents Lorin and Martha Bowley, and brother, Steven Bowley.
The family wishes to give special thanks to all of those who cared for Janice in her home the last couple
of years, as well as the caring staff at Sussman House.
A service celebrating Janice s life is scheduled for 2:00pm, Tuesday, August 30th, at the First
Congregational Church UCC. 55 Elm Street, Camden. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Parkinson s
Foundation (parkinsonsfoundation.org) or Michael J. Fox Foundation (michaeljfox.org) or Camden Area
District Nursing Association, P.O. Box 547, Camden, ME 04843.
