Janice Marie (Davis) O'Bryan entered eternal life and reunited with her daughter, Shannon, on October 14th, 2023. A devout Catholic, she embraced God's loving grace and lived her faith every day through prayer and service to others. She would lovingly remind her family after every conversation to "always keep Jesus close to your heart." True to her Catholic faith, she embraced everyone and was a shining example of God's unconditional love, compassion, and goodness. Because of her deep commitment to prayer, friends and family often asked to be placed on the top of her prayer list.
Music, love, and laughter filled her childhood home. Janice learned piano at an early age and her talent as a classical pianist complimented her operatic voice. Her entire family shared their father's love of music. Singing with her brothers and sisters further nurtured her passion and lifelong love of music. Janice graduated from Presentation Academy and attended St. Mary's College, where she studied music and then went on to sing with the Kentucky Opera Association and the Louisville Chorus. She was blessed with a beautiful voice that she most loved to share during Sunday liturgy.
Her life became all the richer when she met Richard O'Bryan, her faithful husband of 62 years. As testament to her love for him, Rich would tell you that "Janice always put me first." With Rich, Janice found her life's calling as a devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother. She had extraordinary gifts of kindness, compassion, and abundant love. She raised seven faith-filled children, each of whom felt they were the most special and most loved every day. Grandma's prayerful birthday songs and jumbo birthday gift bags were hallmarks of her love for each grandchild.
Janice was preceded in death by her daughter, Shannon; daughter-in-law, Jennie O'Bryan; parents, Joe and Mary B. Davis; and sisters, Mary Jo Schmidt and Rose Ann Beard. She is survived by her loving husband, Rich; their six children, Kevin (Peggy), Kelly Landenwich (Joe), Chris (Sally), Michelle Schaefer (Chris), Tim (Amy), Jeff; 18 grandchildren and her siblings, Theresa Carpenter, Rita Wilkinson, Sue Recktenwald, Charlie Davis, Mike Davis, and Martha Eatherly.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, October 20th at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Her funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 21st at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1920 Newburg Road, with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery, 1300 Ellison Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Martin of Tours Schuhmann Center (https://stmartinoftourslouisville.org/donation.htm).
