Janice Tharp

Janice "Jan" Tharp, 83 of Clovis passed away Wednesday November 13. A celebration of life will be held at the Colonial Park Golf Course Banquet Hall on Wednesday December 4th from 3pm-5pm.
Jan was born in Ashland, Kentucky and raised in Fairborn, Ohio where she was known as Jannie growing up. She was an excellent student and a standout player for her high school basketball team. After high school she was accepted into Officer Candidate School of the United States Air Force and served her country for five years achieving a rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
Jan moved to Clovis in 1973 where she began a nursing career that would span 38 years. She was a leader in her profession and truly loved being a nurse. In 1977 Jan married Fred Tharp Jr. She embraced Fred's three grown children with all her heart while continuing to raise her two young children with Fred. The blended family grew and Jan would become affectionately known as GranJan, not just to her grandkids and family but to her friends and colleagues as well. Being "GranJan" warmed her heart.
Jan was a lifelong football fan and loved watching NFL games on Sunday. She was a master of crossword puzzles and an avid traveler, visiting places all over the world and cruising the high seas with Fred and close friends. Jan was very patriotic as she was always grateful and proud to be an American. It was quite common to see her wearing the stars and stripes in one fashion or another.
Jan was hard working and fun-loving with a great sense of humor. She was smart, reliable, outgoing, friendly, cheerful and kind. Jan Tharp touched many lives. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
Survivors include Jan's two children: Traci Berg (Tom) of Marietta GA, Troy Urban of Clovis, NM, three grandchildren: Ashley Brooks, Kelsey Turner, Erica Berg and two great grandchildren: Braden Brooks and Harley Smith, three step-children: Sharon Crowder (Wes) of Euless TX, Cynthia Lakin Burke (John) of Clovis, NM, Kenneth Tharp (Teri) of Phoenix, AZ, six step-grandchildren and two step-great- grandchildren: Jeremy Lakin, Matthew Ford, Joshua Ford, Marissa Ford, Brittany Chavez, David Tharp, Rebecca Lakin and Elizabeth Lakin. Jan was preceded in death by her mother Marguerite Barry, her step-granddaughter Margaret "Maggie" Tharp, and her husband Fred Tharp Jr.
