Janie aka “GiGi” Averitt, 71, of Kittrell, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Hock Family Pavilion with her family by her side. She was born on May 1, 1953, in Logan, West Virginia to the late Andrew and Amie Gallagher.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Kevin Riggs, brothers, Raymond, Jack, Buddy and Bob and sisters, Gayle, Betty, and Patsy.
Mrs. Averitt attended and graduated from Atlantic Beauty College. She enjoyed listening to music especially with her sisters. Janie loved playing bingo, going to the casino, and shopping with the occasional “Unshopping” visit.
Most important to Janie/GiGi was her family. She was the World’s best cook and loved preparing food for everyone. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister whose unmatched sense of humor and heart of gold will be forever deeply missed.
Janie is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Chris Averitt; son, Andy Riggs (Shawna); sisters, Nancy, Debbie, Fran, Delores, Linda, Shelby, and Juanita; grandchildren Joey (Amanda), Scott, K.J., Cameron and Danika; great grandchildren, Alaina, Kevin, and Bristol as well as countless loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Hudson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 12:00 P.M. Officiating will be Bishop Johnny Godair.
Flowers are acceptable or donations can be made in Janie’s name to the charity of your choice.
